Local Councillors Support Newtownards Market
Monday 23 March 2015
As Public Realm works progress in Conway Square, Newtownards Market continues to trade and it’s business as usual in its new temporary home in Kennel Lane car park.
Customers have been enjoying the same great atmosphere, quality local produce and picking up some bargains at the new venue.
Councillor Jimmy Meenagh discussed the role the market plays in Newtownards: “The Saturday Market has an important part to play in the town. I urge everyone to support their local traders and producers.”
Speaking to further support the market Councillor Alan Graham said “It is good to see the Market here temporally until Conway Square is back in action.”
“The market traders have been looked after at this stage of the Public Realm scheme. I encourage everyone to support the local traders and look forward to them returning to the new and improved Conway Square.” said Councillor Eddie Thompson
Adding to this Councillor David Smyth is delighted the town has received the funding to carry out the works. “It has been over 25 years since the town last had a facelift. The Public Realm scheme will give the town a new modern look. The town will look bigger and better and everyone in the town will benefit from this.”
The transformation of Conway Square will include new paving, curved street furniture, alongside feature lighting and contemporary style litter bins and bollards, which will create a modern look for the town centre. New trees will also be planted, interpretative boards installed and Conway Square will benefit from enhanced power and water supplies.
