Blair Mayne Centenary
THURSDAY 05 FEBRUARY 2015
Sunday 11th January marked the centenary of the birth of Blair Mayne, one of the most decorated British soldiers in World War II. To mark the occassion, his housekeeper at Mount Pleasant, Mary Bell wished to have her photograph taken with the statue commemorating Blair Mayne in Conway Square. Mrs Bell served as Blair's housekeeper between 1953 and 1955, during which time she came to love and respect him.
Although public realm works are underway in the square, FP McCann were able to specially grant access to Mrs Bell and her son Harry to allow photographs to be taken. Harry passed on his thanks to the team for their considerate approach.
