Paving the Way to Town Centre Transformation

Paving the Way to Town Centre Transformation

Public Realm works in Newtownards are starting to take shape as contractors FP McCann begin to lay paving in Regent Street.

The new and improved pavements are being laid using a silver grey granite kerb and Caithness stone flags.

FP McCann has added to their workforce by employing local people, and sub-contractor Moneyreagh Contracts are carrying out the excavation works on the project.

Taking time to give a hand and inspect ongoing works, Leigh Nelson, President of the Newtownards Chamber of Trade says:

“It is an exciting stage in the ongoing development when you begin to see the results of the Public realm work and I am very impressed with stone being used for the new street paving and the care being taken by the contractors to ensure the highest quality. While there has been some disruption in the Town Centre, Ards Borough Council and FP McCann have worked tirelessly to keep this to a minimum and have communicated well with traders at every point.  We look forward to the Town Centre transformation and know the improvements will greatly enhance shoppers and visitors experience’s in Newtownards.”

The £5.5M Newtownards Public Realm scheme seeks to develop Conway Square and the surrounding streets, including Regent Street, Frances Street, Castle Place, and Gibson’s Lane by replacing kerbs and paving, and updating street lighting and street furniture.
